Let the Christ Event Shape Our Lives

Over thirty years ago, when this boy from the south end of Hartford left home for the first time (first airplane ride – no TSA then), I entered the exciting and daunting world of (major) Seminary. For the next four years (and one year of internship – here!), I learned so much, it gave me a pretty solid foundation.

Current thirty years ago was the term “Christ Event.” Many of the professors used it as a sort of shorthand. Simply put, it means all and everything concerning the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Incarnation, His Passion, Ministry, Miracles, Institution of the Sacraments, and of course the Ascension; it covers it all! As the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ the Son of God always was, is and ever shall be.

The week, called Holy Week, encompasses the “Christ Event” par excellence. From today, Palm (Passion) Sunday, we hear, immerse ourselves in, and celebrate the greatest Love Story of all time.

Elsewhere in this bulletin, and in the Easter letter I sent to every registered household, is a Holy Week schedule. Yes, I know some of the liturgies, especially of the Triduum (three days – Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) can be lengthy, but they are so much worth it to recharge our faith! Bring the family – let the children see, hear, smell and sing. WOW!

See you there.

Unpacking the Christ Event with you,

Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
