Pastor’s Message 02/12/2017

From the Desk of Father Dennis

I was recently driving through Hartford, and I caught a glimpse of a billboard which had this headline. The words were wafting over a breezily clad woman, who was smiling broadly as she displayed some “BLING” on her finger. She was happy to show it off, and the (presumably) expensive jewelry gleamed and completed the picture.

It struck me that of course the Valentine’s Day celebration need not include such expensive trinkets, nor even the dozen(s) of roses or mounds of chocolate. The true meaning lies in the heart of the giver, the true love that is that of Jesus Christ, Who gives meaning to all love by His own self-sacrificial love on the Cross.

We all remember when we were kids or when our children or grandchildren were young how we made Valentines for proud display on the refrigerator. These stood as reminders with red and pink paper and glitter that never seemed to go away. A simple “I love you” means so much in our world, as it allows us to speak from the heart.

Before we run out to meet Holy Cupid, let’s remember who we most need to say “I love you” to!

Yours in Christ’s Love,

Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
