From the Desk of Father Dennis

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

Martin Luther King Jr.

This weekend we pause to remember the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We do so in thanksgiving for all the work he did for racial equality and human rights in our country. Who can forget the images of the marches for freedom and the sit-ins and the civil disobedience against an unjust system?

Whether you witnessed the events first hand, or received them some other way, they changed the country and the world forever. Our country is still in turmoil, and much of the solution lies with stepping out in faith even when you don’t see the staircase.

What specific things do I need to attend to ascend the staircase? How can I align the words of Dr. King with the challenge of Jesus? Not easy to do, but pray fervently, and treat others with respect. This goes a long way. Why not start this weekend in your prayer and outlook?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We pray especially for our country this week, as we inaugurate the 45th President of the United States. No matter whom you voted for, we all have a sincere responsibility to pray for the safety, security, and growth of our country. There are no Republicans or Democrats, so it is said, when our national needs take precedence over the party squabbling.
Pray for our new President, pray for our country, and pray for all the citizens of these United States, especially the most vulnerable and those on the margins.
United in the Love of Christ Jesus,
Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
