A New Year Begun in Prayer

A Prayer

By St. Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio)

May your heart always be the temple of the Holy Spirit.

May Jesus always be the Helmsman of your little spiritual ship.

May Mary be the star which shines on your path and may she

show you the safe way to reach the Heavenly Father. Amen.

What better way to ring in 2017 than to do it in a spirit of prayer? Huge amounts of people (millions?) crowd in to Times Square to see the ball drop. The rest of us watch from the safety of our living rooms, close to snacks and indoor plumbing.

The prayer above, attributed to Padre Pio, invites us to surrender, to allow Jesus to steer our boat through good times and bad. We need not be afraid because He loves us and promises to be with us always. I am reassured that my life is led by Jesus Himself, with His Mother the Virgin Mary as model disciple. My goal in 2017, call it a resolution if you must, is inspired by Padre Pio. If God is your copilot, switch seats!

Happy New Year to all!! On behalf of Deacon Mike and Deacon Steve, as well as the lay staff, we all wish you a year full of God’s choicest blessings!

In the Infant King,

Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
