Fully Alive

The glory of God is the human being fully alive, and the human being fully alive is the one who is in Christ Jesus —

St. Irenaeus

Wow! What a beautiful Easter word, on this Divine Mercy Sunday! I hope that your Easter celebration has been a joyous one, and that you and your family were renewed in the prayers, sights, and sounds. Maybe a word, a phrase, an image, an excerpt from the Bible, a piece of music, or of course receiving the Body and Blood of the Risen Christ, moved you on your Easter day. Can you describe yourself as “fully alive” in Christ Jesus? After our Lenten observance has ended, we pray more fervently that we are all fully alive in Christ. Truly alive in the waters of Baptism, we are renewed in the Resurrection.

What does it mean to be fully alive? It means that we are: a.) open to the power of God’s Mercy and Grace in our lives; b.) allowing the Sacraments of the Church to shape our lives, especially the Eucharist; c.) touched by the power of the Bible, the living Word of God, especially as heard at Sunday Mass; d.) aware of the needs of others, especially those who do not have what we have, and vow to help them; e.) committed to evangelization, sharing our faith with others; f.) committed to full, active, purposeful participation in the Sunday liturgy.

The Easter season unfolds before us, fifty days until Pentecost…let us celebrate who we are and become more fully alive together.

Yours in the Risen Christ Jesus,

Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
