From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

Today is the Solemnity of the Epiphany the Sunday when we celebrate the Manifestation of the Lord (Epiphania) as Light of the world.  Following the star, we recognize the true Light – Jesus. We also inherit a challenge:

Child of Bethlehem—house of bread; Man of Jerusalem – city of peace; you have loved us without limit or condition; in our greatness and in our misery, in our folly and in our virtue; may your hand be always upon us and may your heart be within us so that we too may become bread and peace for one another. [John Hammond, OSB]

In what ways are we being called to be bread and peace to others in the New Year 2016?  Can we live simply that others may live [St. Elizabeth Ann Seton]? Can we be instruments of peace, seeking to resolve the conflicts at home, work, school, or within our families?

We often make resolutions for the new year—perhaps this year we can stand on God’s resolution, Who loves us perfectly and completely in His Mercy and forgiveness.  God resolves to love us no matter what, no matter the circumstances.  He is overflowing with Mercy, the fulfillment of which is in Jesus.

On behalf of Deacon Mike and Deacon Steve, as well as our terrific staff, I wish you a holy, happy, and fulfilling New Year 2016.  May this Extraordinary Year of Mercy be one of grace and peace for you and yours.  Let us be bread and peace to others always.

Happy and holy New Year,

Reverend Dennis J. Vincenzo
