 Were Not Our Hearts Burning?

The Gospel for the Third Sunday of Easter is full of Paschal energy and joyful noise.  Two disciples on the Road to Emmaus are met by the Risen Lord, but are restrained from recognizing Him.  He listens to them share their shattered hopes and then interprets all that referred to Him in Sacred Scriptures.  They invite Him to stay with them and He shares a meal with them.  He breaks bread and vanishes from their sight.  They discuss that their hearts were burning within them and how they recognized Him in the breaking of the bread.  Word and Sacrament, the core of our lives as Catholics, nourish us unto life eternal.

I was pleased last weekend when I saw so many parishioners attend the Time and Talent Fair after all the Masses.  People of all ages signed up to share their talents, whether with the newly formed garden committee or adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays.  Hearts burned with Easter joy, as so many offered and shared their time.

Two by two, sharing our faith history, is where we meet the Risen Lord in so many ways.

Thanks to all who made such a wonderful experience possible.

Easter joy,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
