In Debt

God, who is faithful, put Himself in our debt, not by receiving anything but by promising so much.

A promise was not sufficient for Him; He chose to commit Himself in writing as well,

as it were making a contract of His Promises.  St. Augustine

As we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent, Christmas is just a few days away.  We behold, as Joseph does in today’s Gospel, that our salvation is at hand.  The word made Flesh, Jesus Christ, is our Life and our Salvation.  God the Father paid our debt for us, in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ.

St. Augustine continues:  “It was not enough for God to make His Son our guide to the way; He made Him the Way itself, that you might travel with Him as Leader, and by Him as the Way.”

Let the Infant King lead us as the way to eternal life.  He is our Way, our Truth, our Life.

Merry Christmas to all in our parish family and to all people of good will in the Middlebury community.  In my own name, and in the names of Deacon Mike and Deacon Steve, I wish you all a Holy and Merry Christmas.  Let us keep Christ in Christmas and in our hearts.  Thank you for all you do and have done during this past year to build up our parish family.  Your time, talent and treasure shared so generously honor our Lord always.  I will remember your intentions in my Christmas Masses.

Merry Christmas,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
