From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

An Advent of Justice

We are beginning our new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent today.  Our thoughts and hearts are focused on getting ready for the celebration of the Incarnation, the Day of Christmas.  One scholar  has reflected on this new season:  “In our Advent celebrations, we find a strong emphasis on issues of justice and peace.  [Today], we are called to prepare for the Second Coming of the Lord (in Greek, parousia; in Latin, adventus) and to celebrate Christ’s entry into our lives by living as men, women, and children of justice who work for a more peaceful world.  And yet, we know that the commercial world has come to dominate our Advent preparations, causing us at times to miss the real wealth that Advent holds forth for those who immerse themselves in its… celebrations.” (Coffey, et al)

Please take home one of the Little Blue Books for Advent and follow along with each day.  Just a few minutes (6) a day can lead to great treasures as a family.

Let us continue to pray for one another.

Daily Mass Schedule

I will be on retreat from December 1st through  December 7th.  There will be no daily Mass celebrated Monday, December 2nd through Friday, December 6th.

Please pray for me, as I promise to pray for your intentions.

Advent peace,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
