A New Shepherd: Archbishop Leonard Blair

We rejoice today at the Pope Francis’ appointment of our new Archbishop, the Most Rev. Leonard Blair.  Archbishop Blair is presently serving as Bishop of Toledo, Ohio, a post he has held for about ten years.

With the Holy Father’s appointment, we greet the fifth Archbishop of Hartford.  Our Archdiocese is blessed by Archbishop Blair, and grateful for the ministry of Archbishop Henry Mansell.  The Shepherd’s staff is passed, and Archbishop Blair takes his seat on the cathedra (Bishop’s chair), where he becomes our chief Pastor.  Here is some information about our new Archbishop:

Bishop of The Toledo Diocese Bishop Leonard Paul Blair, born in Detroit on April 12, 1949,  was named the Seventh Bishop of Toledo on October 7, 2003, and installed in the Diocese of Toledo on December 4, 2003.

Bishop Blair was ordained to the priesthood in June of 1976 following studies at Sacred Heart Seminary College, Detroit; the North American College, Rome; and the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome.  Bishop Blair’s previous assignments include: Dean of Studies and Assistant Professor of Theology, Sacred Heart Major Seminary College; Vicar General and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Detroit; Consultor, Archdiocese of Detroit and a seminary instructor.

Bishop Blair also served as Pastoral Administrator at St. Christine Parish, Detroit; Associate Pastor at St. Paul Parish, Grosse Pointe Farms; Associate Pastor at St. Christopher Parish, Detroit; and Associate Pastor at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Harper Woods.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
