Vocations, Part 2

Last week, I wrote about the long time since a vocation to priesthood or religious life has emerged from this parish.  I was correct on the priesthood (no vocation since 1971), but I overlooked our last vocation to consecrated life.

Sr. Mary Dolora Keating is the daughter of Bob and Rita Keating, and has been in the parish since 1971.  She entered religious life in 1982, and presently works in Washington, D.C.  Sister was visiting her family during this past weekend, and was the first to point out my oversight.  Sorry, Sister, I did not mean to ignore you!  May you grow and flourish in the service of our Lord in consecrated life.  We are proud of you.

Our challenge remains to encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life.  When was the last time that topic was brought up in your home? How about in the prayers you participate in as a family?  Below you can find a prayer from the Roman Missal (where the prayers for Mass are written):

O God, who willed to provide shepherds for your people, pour out in your Church a spirit of piety and fortitude, to raise up worthy ministers for your altars and make them ardent yet gentle heralds of your Gospel. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you      in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Let us pray for one another, and for vocations to priesthood and religious life.

Peace,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
