From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

“God’s mercy can make even the driest land become a garden, can restore life to dry bones (cf. Ez 37:1-14)… Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of his love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.” Pope Francis, Easter Urbi et Orbi message, March 31, 2013

Do we trust God enough to allow Him to transform the arid parts of our lives into lush gardens? Do we love ourselves enough to let Jesus love us unconditionally? Do we love the work of God’s hands enough to protect all creation?

In his address “to the city and to the world,” Pope Francis challenges us to become ” agents of mercy,” to carry with us the bright promise of God’s love perfectly expressed in Christ Jesus.

Today’s Gospel depicts Jesus asking: “Who do the crowds say that I am?”  And then He follows it up with: ” But who do you say that I am? ” Each of us needs to respond accordingly, taking up our cross and following Him.

Are you ready?

BOOK OF GOSPELS:  We are most grateful to the Peer Ministers for the donation of the new Book of Gospels, used for the first time last week at the graduation Mass.  It is beautiful, multi-colored book with the symbols of the four Evangelists adorning it.  Now it will be carried in procession by the Deacon, in place of the Lectionary.  The parish family will be blessed by the Peer Ministers’ generosity for many years to come.

In the peace of Christ.

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
