Parish Meetings:  Looking Ahead – Part 1

Last Saturday, April 27th, we held the last of four parish meetings, at which we shared ideas about the future of the parish.  I would like to take the opportunity to outline the major areas that were covered, hoping to be as informative as possible to those who were not present.

1.) Assessment Tool:  As you may recall, copies were mailed to all registered parish households.  We received approximately 10% back that were completed.  They are in the process of being collated now, and then they will be analyzed by a subcommittee of the Parish Council.  A report will be made to the Parish Council, and it should help shape their agenda for the coming year.

2.) Spiritual Report:  The parish is essentially very healthy in its spiritual life.  The report which I gave spoke of several strengths – liturgy, worship, music, and Sacramental preparation; our goal is to make the parish more of a Eucharistic-centered, welcoming community.

3.) Financial Report: A detailed balance sheet and profit and loss statement was presented, which indicated that we essentially broke even in 2012.  If anyone wants a copy of the report, please do not hesitate to call the Parish House at (203) 758-2659 or e-mail at st.john@snet.net .

4.) Financial Plan: Since late 2011, the buildings and grounds committee, a subcommittee of the finance council, has been working to present a plan covering the maintenance projects that are necessary to undertake to improve our church and its campus.  This was presented to the finance council and parish council and it was accepted.  Some of the work has already been done (South St. porch, caulking and painting of windows, drainage issues, sealing of the areas where water was seeping into the church)….

Stay tuned next week for more information

Monsignor Regan’s 60th Anniversary Please Mark your calendars!!!! On Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., Msgr. John Regan will celebrate his 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.  Our parish family has been so much a part of his priesthood.  As our former Pastor, he led this parish for 16 + years, and is so well-respected and well-loved.  Please join us for Mass at 2:00 p.m., followed by light refreshments in Father Fanning hall.  Come and wish Msgr. Regan congratulations on this momentous occasion.

United in the Risen Lord,

Father Dennis J. Vincenzo
