From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

As our new Holy Father, Pope Francis I, was introduced to the world, his appearance was preceded by the white smoke pouring out of the Sistine Chapel. These words were shouted in acclamation: “HABEMUS PAPAM” (We have a Pope!), announcing with joy to the world that the See of Peter is no longer vacant.

After a prayer for his predecessor, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, he asked for a blessing from the people. Francis I spoke: “And now I would like to give. a blessing, but first – first I ask a favour of you: before the Bishop blesses his people, I ask you to pray to The Lord that He will bless me: the prayer of the people asking the blessing for their Bishop. Let us make, in silence, this prayer: your prayer over me.”

Pope Francis promptly bowed and in silence the world prayed. Watching the coverage live, I raised my hand in prayer and blessed the new Pope; I had tears in my eyes by then. What a gesture of humidity, an expression of true holiness – as the song says, ” to love another person is to see the face of God” (“Epilogue”).

This week is the holiest week of our year, the center of our liturgical year. With the Triduum ( three days) – Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil), we celebrate the Paschal Mystery.

Please join us for the Triduum – bring your family (especially the young ones)! BOW before the HOLY as the Pope did.

United in the Paschal Mystery,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
