From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

 My Special Possession

“You have seen for yourselves how I bore you up on eagle wings and brought you here to myself.  Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession, dearer to me than all other people, though all the earth is mine.” [Exodus 19:4-6a]

Do we see ourselves as God’s “special possession”?  Do we recognize that we are indeed unique and precious, unrepeatable in God’s sight and heart?  Lent is the ideal time to discover this anew, to see ourselves robed in the Love of the Crucified and Risen Christ.  Through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (giving something up).  Give the money to those who are in need (who do not have the option to fast or abstain), we unite ourselves with Christ.  Too often, we see ourselves as sinners, not worthy of God’s love.

Come home to the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession).  We have extended hours on Mondays from 6 – 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 3 – 4 p.m., before the Vigil Mass at 4:30 p.m.  Judging from the numbers who have availed themselves of the Sacrament thus far in Lent, people are either going elsewhere or not going at all.  We are missing a beautiful opportunity to be healed and freed from sin.  Don’t let this Lent pass you by while you are distracted doing other things.

 Mission on the Road

Our parish Mission travels this weekend to St. Mary Church in Newington [626 Willard Ave].  It will be held from 3-5 p.m. today (Sunday, March 3rd).  Father Joe Keough and I will lead the presentation based on new insights into the Stations of the Cross.  Last weekend we filled our church with a standing room only crowd.  Be part of this beautiful Lenten tradition!

In Christ’s Love,

Father Dennis
