From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

That journey, of course, is Lent.  How will Lent 2013 be different than any other Lent?  It should be different, since we are different people.  We have had a year of prayer, a year of reflection on the Paschal Mystery, a new liturgical year to guide us to a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Please take to heart the insert in today’s bulletin.  It offers some guidance on preparing for the journey.  Also, watch your mail for a Lenten schedule reminder.  Put it on your refrigerator or tape it to your mirror.  All I can say is:  join us, join us, join us…

In the fifth century, Peter Chrysologus wrote:  “Fasting is the soul of prayer, mercy is the lifeblood of fasting.  If we have not all three together, we have nothing.”  What do we need to fast from this Lent?  How will I respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit?

It’s not just about getting a smudge of ashes on our foreheads, and then “doing Lent” the same as always.  Let this Lent be vibrant, ever new.

Your brother on the Lenten journey together,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo

P.S.:  Make time to attend the Parish Mission on February 24 from 3-5 p.m.
