From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

“Won’t You Be My Jesus?”

A few weeks ago, I heard a musical number on “A Prairie Home Companion” on NPR.  It was composed by Bob Fisher as a homage to Fred Astaire, one of the greatest dancers in show business who ever ‘hoofed’ it on screen.  It was entitled “Will You Be My Ginger?,” a reference to the screen partnership with Ginger Rogers.  The piano tune, written for four hands, has a ‘big band’ and ‘ragtime’ feel, oozing with toe tapping energy.  After it was done, I still could see Fred Astaire dancing across the stage, grasping Ginger’s hand in perpetuity.    As Christmas approaches, I thought of the title offering a different perspective:  “Won’t You Be My Jesus?”  Coming before the manger we behold the greatest Gift of all:  the Infant King.  We are invited to savor the Gift, and share Him with all whom we meet.  We are to be Jesus for others.  This can happen in so many different ways:  teach our children and grandchildren about the true meaning of Christmas, witness to others the hope, joy,  and peace of Jesus.

I am profoundly grateful for all the many ways our parish family shares Jesus, with its time, talent, and treasure.

In my own name, and in the name of Deacon Mike and Deacon Steve, and all the staff, I wish you a Happy and Merry Christmas and a glorious and healthy New Year 2013.  Thank you for being our Jesus.

Christmas Love,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
