Salute a Veteran

Several years ago, Tom Brokaw wrote a book about “The Greatest Generation,” those World War II veterans who fought so selflessly and humbly to defend the freedoms we enjoy.  Mr. Brokaw chronicled so many veterans’ lives, and told their stories in such vivid detail.  It is a riveting book, and one I highly recommend.

I believe that every veteran who has worn the uniform of the United States of America is part of a great generation, men and women who put their lives on the line day in and day out, often without much fanfare.  These brave veterans laid the foundation for us, and allow us to live in peace.  Whatever the time frame they served, they are a model for us.

Pray for them daily, and for the ones still on active duty, pray for their safety and for their safe return home to the arms of their loved ones.  If you meet someone in uniform, thank him or her for their service to our country, and say it with enthusiasm.  This year, on Veterans Day, be resolved to thank a veteran, and thank God that we still have such heroes among us.

United in the Lord Jesus,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
