Ever New

“[I]t is the love of Christ that fills our hearts and impels us to evangelize.  Today as in the past, He sends us through the highways of the world to proclaim His Gospel to all the peoples of the earth…Through His love, Jesus Christ attracts to Himself the people of every generation: in every age He convokes the Church, entrusting her with the proclamation of the Gospel by a mandate that is ever new.”  Pope Benedict XVI, “Porta Fidei (Door of Faith), Apostolic Letter proclaiming the Year of Faith 2012-13.

Our Holy Father invites us to be renewed in our own faith, and to love it so much that we cannot help but share it with the world:  in our homes, workplaces, playgrounds, sports fields, on social media, in church, permeating all relationships.  How do we keep our faith “ever new”?  A few suggestions;

 Attend Mass and receive the Body and Blood of Christ.  There is no more intimate union with our Lord, Who teaches us and shows us the way.

 Read the Scriptures on a regular basis and come to Mass prepared to hear anew:  the homily cannot do it all…we must spend time with the Living Word, to allow it to instruct us.  There is a link to the daily readings on www.stjohnofthecrosschurch.org (look on the home page at the bottom).  There is an audio link so that you can hear the readings read.

 Learn about the faith:  search Catholic sites on the web.  The United States Catholic Bishops have many resources on their website (use link above).  There are many family-friendly activities.These are but a few (watch for more!).

I cannot urge you enough:  VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!  Get out to the polls and cast your ballot.  Most of us are comfortably over eighteen—do your duty as Americans.

Remember:  the only wasted vote is a vote not cast.

United in our Faith,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
