From Fr. Dennis’ Desk

I Am a Vote.

Americans, down through the years of this great country’s history, have:  abused me, demagogued me, sold me, fought and died for me and the right to cast me.  They have cheapened me, elevated me, and used me to elect everyone from the local tax collector to the President of the United States,

As a vote, I capture every voice, every ideology, every hope and every dream.  I stand tall in the marketplace, on talk radio, and on every placard waved for a cause.  I give voice to the heart, and I empower large numbers of people.  I am counted, followed, dissected, evaluated from every side.  I am a hanging chad and a soaring dream.  I protect the weak, and challenge the powerful.  I hire the mighty and elevate ideas which chart directions in our country.

I am a majority of one.

I overheard something that someone said – “I am not going to vote.  Those politicians are all the same.  I am sick and tired of the negative ads.  My vote doesn’t matter, anyway.”

You know what?  The only wasted vote is the vote not cast.

I am a vote.  Please don’t waste me.

Hopeful in Christ,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
