Saint John of the Cross Church

Dear Father Vincenzo:

I am pleased to appoint you Pastor of Saint John of the Cross Church, Middlebury.  This appointment is effective May 23, 2012, and is for a term of six years.  At the same time, I express my gratitude for the service that you have given to Saint John of the Cross as Temporary Administrator and Administrator, as well as for your dedicated priestly ministry in the Archdiocese since your Ordination on January 12, 1991.

Your parish leadership has expressed their confidence in you and they are eager to have you continue as their pastor.  In particular, they speak of your efforts to enrich their spirituality through your homilies, retreat programs for volunteers, and the various liturgical celebrations that you have brought to the parish.  Your presence before and after Mass, your presence at parish programs and meetings, and at the Religious Education classes is appreciated immensely.  Two areas that your parishioners would like to see developed are a renewal of stewardship so that more parishioners can become involved and the development of an adult education program.  As you begin your term as Pastor, I am confident that your parish will continue to grow as a vibrant community of faith and be an outstanding witness of the Catholic Church in Middlebury.

By this appointment you continue to have authority to transact business in the name of the Saint John of the Cross Church Corporation.  You alone are authorized to sign checks and to draw on the funds that are on deposit in the bank.  Other arrangements can be authorized only with my written approval.  I am aware of the financial constraints that the parish faces.  I ask that you work closely with your Finance Council to maintain a secure financial base both for operations and capital needs.

Be assured, Dennis, of my grateful prayers for you and the parishioners of Saint John of the Cross Parish.

Sincerely yours in Christ,    + Henry J. Mansell    Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell    Archbishop of Hartford
