Mother’s Love

How beautiful it is to reflect today on a Mother’s love. We cherish that love and look to celebrate it and imitate it in our lives. On Mother’s Day, the second reading from the first Letter of St. John challenges us: “…let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God…for God is love.” God’s very essence, God’s very Person, is Love.

Jesus invites us to remain in His love, so that the joy of the Father and the Son may be in us, and our joy may be complete. How powerful it is to meditate on these truths on any day, but especially on Mother’s Day.

H.W. Beecher, a 19th century American influential clergyman, once wrote: “The mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom.” As we reflect on what we learned in that schoolroom, we rejoice and praise God for the gift of our mothers’ love. That schoolroom has given so much meaning to our lives, and shaped us into what we are today.

I recognize that there are some who read this who may not have a good relationship with their mother, whether through estrangement, addiction, or dysfunctional family systems. Maybe there are others who never knew their mothers due to death, or divorce, or family strife. Every one of us joins in prayer this day, and we support those who have had a difficult or nonexistent relationship with their mother.

If your mother has passed away, whether recently or many years ago, we pray with you at all of our Masses for the repose of her soul.

Why not offer your Mother’s Day Mass for your mother, living or deceased, and pray in thanksgiving for the gift of her love?

Thanks

Many thanks to those who helped to clean up the gardens at the Parish House last weekend. Mike and Maryann McCormack were joined by several of our high school students. Bravo!

We thank Annette and Paul Babarik for the beautiful new addition to our altar linens, a linen chalice cover.

We thank the anonymous donors who gave the tabernacle candles, which match the Paschal candle and the altar candles. These are specially handmade. Thanks to all!

Yours in the Risen One,

Fr. Dennis J. Vincenzo
